The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development has postponed the swearing-in of newly elected Regional and Local Authority councillors, with a new date to be announced.

The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development has called off the swearing-in ceremonies for all newly elected Regional and Local Authority councillors, which were initially set for 3 December 2025.

In a circular issued on Friday, Executive Director Wilhelmine Shivute informed chief regional officers and CEOs of local authorities that the scheduled ceremonies “will not proceed as planned”, noting that a new date will be announced once confirmed.

The latest communication follows an earlier circular dated 31 October 2025, which had outlined initial arrangements for the inauguration of political office-bearers after the regional and local authority elections.

The ministry did not give reasons for the postponement. The circular was also copied to the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, all regional governors and the Executive Director in the Office of the Judiciary.
