ReconAfrica Plans Production Tests After Positive Early Findings in Kavango Well

ReconAfrica has announced plans to conduct production testing in the coming months after receiving promising early results from its newly drilled well in the Kavango Regions. The company says the well, completed only a few weeks ago, has shown indications of hydrocarbons—an outcome that has renewed momentum in its exploration campaign.
The update follows a high-level briefing held at State House, where ReconAfrica, alongside its partners BW Energy and NAMCOR, met with President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to discuss progress in the ongoing exploration programme.
According to ReconAfrica President Brian Reinsborough, the drilling operation was carried out safely and efficiently, leading to what appears to be an early hydrocarbon discovery. He said the next phase will involve returning to the site to run production tests to determine how much oil or gas the well could potentially yield.
“We’re encouraged by what we are seeing so far. This well has given us positive indications, and our intention is to return in a few months to conduct a production test. That will help us understand the true potential of this accumulation,” Reinsborough noted, adding that the findings are still in their preliminary stage.

“Our plan is to conduct a production test in the first quarter. Depending on those results, we may proceed with drilling another well, carry out seismic studies, and hopefully reach a commercial decision by the end of next year,” he said.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah reaffirmed her administration’s focus on strengthening collaboration between government and private investors as part of economic development efforts. She also highlighted the recent launch of three task forces aimed at supporting economic recovery.
