Top Cheri Asks Venezuela to Observe Moment of Silence Ahead of Performance

Namibian music star and cultural voice Top Cheri used the stage at the Concert for Peace and Solidarity with Venezuela to deliver a powerful message calling for global recognition and support for Namibia’s Genocide Remembrance Day.
While performing at the diplomatic cultural event hosted by the Embassy of Venezuela in Namibia, Top Cheri shifted the focus from entertainment to historical reflection, urging Venezuela and the international community to stand in solidarity with Namibia in honoring the victims of the 1904–1908 genocide against the Herero and Nama peoples.
Speaking on stage, she asked the audience to observe a moment of silence, saying:
“Ladies and Gentlemen, before we start today in Namibia we are remembering Genocide Namibia, can you please stand with us for the 5 second for the Moment of silence.”

Her statement drew attention not only to remembrance but also to the importance of international acknowledgment of Namibia’s painful colonial history, which is officially commemorated nationwide as Genocide Remembrance Day.
Beyond her message, Top Cheri’s appearance also stood out visually as she wore a modern Oshiwambo traditional outfit, a choice that many fans praised as a strong expression of cultural pride on an international platform.
Following the event, supporters online applauded her for blending activism, heritage, and performance, highlighting her growing role as both an entertainer and cultural ambassador representing Namibian identity on global stages.
