Iran Confirms Death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei After Tehran Strike

Iranian state media have confirmed the death of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, following recent military strikes on his residence in Tehran.
Authorities announced a 40-day period of national mourning after confirming that Khamenei was killed during attacks reportedly carried out by Israel and the United States. According to official reports, his body was recovered from beneath rubble at his compound in the Iranian capital.
The announcement came hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly stated that he believed the Iranian leader had been killed when Israeli forces bombed his house. Netanyahu made the remarks before Tehran issued formal confirmation.
Khamenei, who had served as Iran’s highest authority since 1989, exercised ultimate control over the country’s political, military and religious institutions. His leadership played a central role in shaping Iran’s domestic governance and its foreign policy stance in the region.
Security has reportedly been heightened across major cities as officials call for calm during the mourning period. Attention is now turning to the constitutional process for appointing a successor, a transition expected to have significant implications for Iran’s future direction and regional stability.
