A young soldier from Bagani Village in the Mukwe Constituency of Kavango East has become an inspiration to many after recently graduating with a Diploma in Journalism and Media Studies from Triumphant College.

Murauri Djani Faustinus, who comes from Bagani Village located about 8 kilometres east of Divundu, is currently continuing his studies toward a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies at the same institution.

Faustinus said his passion for journalism started during childhood because of his curiosity and eagerness to learn. “I was a child who was very keen to know things, very dedicated and always very observing,” he said. “I was always eager to learn, and that’s what journalism is all about — knowing your surroundings and what’s happening around the world”.

His academic journey was full of obstacles. Due to the absence of Triumphant College in Divundu, Faustinus had to travel more than 200 kilometres from Divundu to Rundu in order to write his examinations while balancing the demanding responsibilities of military service.

“I also had to make sure I came back on time to continue with my work duties,’’ he explained.

Despite the pressure and long-distance travel, he remained motivated by his belief in his own abilities. “I knew the kind of person I am,” he said. “And I knew I had everything in me to study and pass with high colours”.

The journey also required personal sacrifices. Faustinus revealed that he had to redirect financial support from his relationship toward funding his education. “One of my sacrifices was my relationship,” he said. “I had to stop supporting my girlfriend so I could continue spending on my education. As we speak, the relationship is no more, but thank God it wasn’t for nothing”.

In addition to financial and emotional sacrifices, he faced discouragement from some colleagues who doubted his capabilities. “Many of them didn’t believe in me,” he said. “They thought I was not capable or deserving to study. They thought I was not going to make it”.

However, Faustinus says discipline and self-determination kept him focused on achieving his goals. “I am a self-determined person. I always make sure I deliver my promises, especially the ones I made to myself,” he said. “It was hard with work pressure, but in the end, it paid off”.

Now continuing with his bachelor’s degree, Faustinus hopes his story will motivate young people, especially those facing difficult circumstances, to remain focused on their dreams. “Consistency and self-determination are very vital,” he advised. “People will tell you things to discourage you, but you just have to believe in yourself. Success only comes to people who believe they can do it no matter what the circumstances”.
