A Walvis Bay man says he was left heartbroken after allegedly discovering that the son he believed he had supported for years never existed.

According to Namibian Sun, 31-year-old Theofelus Nghidinwa claims he spent nearly N$10 000 on child maintenance after his former long-distance girlfriend, Veronika Timoteus (26), allegedly convinced him she had given birth to his child in 2020.

He said the woman regularly sent him photographs of the boy and accepted financial support, but repeatedly prevented him from meeting the child despite several trips from Walvis Bay to northern Namibia.

The alleged deception came to light after Timoteus was arrested in Oshakati in connection with the alleged abduction of a young boy. Nghidinwa said he was finally introduced to the child, but became suspicious after noticing the boy appeared older than expected and reportedly identified another man as his father.

Police later informed him that the child had been reported missing and that Timoteus had been arrested.

Nghidinwa said he has since submitted bank records to investigators and believes other men may have fallen victim to a similar scheme. Although devastated by the experience, he said his main concern is recovering the money he lost.

Police have also confirmed that the suspect allegedly provided a false identity following her arrest. She appeared in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court, where bail was denied, and the matter was postponed to 16 September 2026 for further investigations.
