Authorities in the Omusati Region are closely monitoring elephant movements after several sightings were reported in different areas of the region.

The Ministry of Environment confirmed that a single elephant was seen roaming around Ondaanda village earlier today. According to ministry spokesperson Vilho Hangula, officials have been dispatched to the area to assess the situation and monitor the animal’s movement.

In a separate report, eight elephants were also spotted moving around the Onesi Constituency on Tuesday night. Local residents alerted authorities after observing the group of elephants passing through the area.

Officials from the ministry are currently on the ground evaluating the situation and working to ensure the safety of both communities and wildlife.

The reports come amid heightened concern in the region following a recent incident in which a woman was killed by an elephant in the same region. Authorities are therefore urging residents to remain cautious, avoid approaching wild animals, and immediately report elephant sightings to local officials.

Human–wildlife encounters are not uncommon in parts of northern Namibia, where elephants sometimes move through communal areas while searching for food and water.
