Namibia’s Judiciary Strengthened as Chief Justice Announces Three High Court Appointments

Namibia’s judiciary will be strengthened with the appointment of three judges to the High Court, effective 1 March.

Chief Justice Peter Shivute announced the new appointments during a session at the Supreme Court, confirming that the judiciary will benefit from regional legal expertise.

According to Shivute, Justice David Mangota from Zimbabwe has been appointed as an Acting Judge of the High Court for a three-year term starting 1 March. Fellow Zimbabwean jurist Justice James Devittie has also been appointed as an Acting Judge of the High Court for the same three-year period.

In addition, Justice Gabriel Komboni of Botswana will serve as a Judge of the High Court on contract for two years and five months, with his term set to commence on 1 March 2026.

The appointments are expected to bolster the capacity of the High Court and support the efficient administration of justice.
