Prime Minister Ngurare calls for stronger commitment to international law and peace

Prime Minister Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare has called on the international community to uphold international law and strengthen efforts towards lasting peace, saying the principles of the United Nations Charter must be applied fairly to all nations.
Speaking at the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) International Summit in Luanda, Angola, Ngurare said a rules-based international order can only succeed if countries are treated equally under international law.
The two-day summit, held from 16 to 17 July under the theme “A Call for Peace, the End of Wars and Respect for International Law,” brought together world leaders to discuss global peace and security.
During his address, Ngurare reaffirmed Namibia’s support for the right of all people to self-determination, expressing solidarity with the people of Palestine and Western Sahara.
He also called for the lifting of the United States embargo on Cuba, saying it would allow the Cuban people to live in peace and dignity. The Prime Minister said sustainable peace cannot be achieved without the active participation of women and young people in peacebuilding efforts.
He noted that Namibia continues to champion the Women, Peace and Security agenda through international commitments such as UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and the Windhoek +25 Declaration.
Ngurare also raised concerns about growing pressure on multilateral institutions, urging reforms to the United Nations Security Council to make it more representative and responsive to global challenges.
He said the proposed reforms should reflect Africa’s position as outlined in the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration.
