A total of 11 fatalities including two nurses and three minor children have been confirmed in a road accident involving a Ministry of Health and Social Services minibus and a truck along the B1 road, approximately 30 kilometres south of Otjiwarongo on Friday morning.

Otjozondjupa Regional Police Commander Commissioner Philip Hidengwa confirmed the death toll. Preliminary reports indicate that the minibus may have struck a kudu crossing the road, causing the driver, aged 50, to lose control before colliding with an oncoming truck.

The truck driver, aged 46, and his assistant survived the crash.

Earlier on Wednesday night, a separate collision along the Swakopmund–Arandis road resulted in 8 fatalities. In another incident near Usakos on Friday morning, one person died and four others were critically injured in a three-vehicle collision close to the railway bridge along the Usakos–Karibib road.

Emergency responders confirmed the fatality at the scene, while the injured were transported for urgent medical care. This brings the total number of lives lost in road accident to 20 within just two days.
