Morning Crash on B2 Near Karibib Claims One Life

A fatal road accident along the B2 route near Karibib has claimed the life of a 67-year-old woman, while several others were injured.

The crash occurred earlier this morning, shortly before 08:00, approximately seven kilometres outside Karibib in the direction of Okahandja. Preliminary reports from the Erongo Police indicate that a Toyota Quantum minibus, driven by a 46-year-old Namibian man, lost control while travelling from Rehoboth through Karibib en route to Walvis Bay. The vehicle, which was towing a trailer, was carrying 13 passengers at the time of the incident.

Tragically, one of the passengers, identified as Stella Johanna Orren (67), died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities have confirmed that her family has been notified.

Among the remaining occupants, six passengers between the ages of 10 and 59 suffered injuries ranging from moderate to serious, while another six, aged between 5 and 52, were unharmed. The driver escaped with minor injuries. A breathalyser test conducted at the scene confirmed that the driver had not consumed alcohol.

Emergency services responded promptly, and all injured individuals were transported to Usakos State Hospital for treatment.

Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The Erongo Police have expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased and continue to urge motorists to prioritise road safety by observing traffic regulations, maintaining vehicle roadworthiness, and driving with caution at all times.
