SWAPO MP James Uerikua Dies in a Car Crash

A tragic road accident in the Otjozondjupa Region has claimed the life of SWAPO Member of Parliament James Unomasa Uerikua (43), along with his young son, leaving the nation in mourning. The crash occurred on Friday, and authorities are continuing investigations to determine the exact circumstances.
Namibian Police Inspector General Joseph Shikongo confirmed the incident, stating that more information will be released once preliminary findings are completed. Several other individuals were reported injured in the accident and are receiving medical care.
In response to the tragedy, President H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed profound sorrow in a public message:
“It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I have learned of the tragic passing of Honourable James Unomasa Uerikua, SWAPO Member of Parliament, following a motor vehicle crash. I have further been informed, with deep anguish, that his son has also succumbed to injuries sustained in the same incident. This heartbreaking development deepens our collective grief and compounds the pain of this tragic loss.”
The President extended condolences to Uerikua’s family, loved ones, colleagues in the National Assembly, and SWAPO comrades, describing the late MP as “a young and promising leader, a brilliant mind, and a very well-spoken voice in our national discourse.” She emphasized the national loss, highlighting his contributions to strengthening democracy and his dedication to public service.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah also reminded Namibians of the importance of road safety, urging caution to prevent such devastating losses in the future.
“May the souls of Honourable James Unomasa Uerikua and his son rest in eternal peace,” she concluded.
The nation continues to grieve the loss of a bright and promising leader whose life and service were cut tragically short.
