Rundu Chiefs Claim First Season Victory as Benson Joins Top Scorers Race

Rundu Chiefs FC finally recorded their long-awaited first victory of the season after defeating Young African FC 2–0 in a decisive clash at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek. The win brings much-needed relief to the team, which has shown promising performances since their promotion to the elite league but struggled to convert those efforts into maximum points.
Before today’s match, the Rundu-based side had completed seven fixtures without a victory, managing four draws and suffering three defeats. Their breakthrough result now lifts them to seven points on the log, marking an important turning point in their campaign.
The match’s standout performers were Benson Kaluba and Shaun Sankwasa, who both found the back of the net to secure the crucial win. Their goals not only sealed the victory but also highlighted the growing confidence within the squad.
Kaluba’s goal has now pushed him into the league’s top-five scorers, where he sits jointly with Michael Jonas, M. Muyeka, and teammate Derl Goagoseb, each on four goals. His consistent scoring form continues to be a major asset for Rundu Chiefs as they look to climb further up the standings.
In another boost for the club, Rundu Chiefs FC is expected to begin hosting their upcoming home matches at the newly repaired Rundu Sports Stadium. The facility has been undergoing renovations since the start of the season, forcing the team to play away from home. Returning to their home ground for the first time this season is anticipated to significantly lift the team’s morale and strengthen their performance in front of local supporters.
With renewed confidence and the advantage of home fixtures ahead, Rundu Chiefs will be hoping to build on this historic first win and continue gaining momentum as the season progresses.
On the other hand, Young African Football Club, who recently suffered a 2–0 defeat to Julinho Sporting, have now endured back-to-back losses after falling to Rundu Chiefs by the same scoreline.
