João Félix Open to European Return as Champions League Ambition Grows
João Félix has revealed that he is considering a return to European football, despite being happy with life at Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.
The Portuguese forward, who currently plays alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia, says he wants to experience UEFA Champions League football again, although he has not decided exactly when he could return to Europe.
“I’m very happy at Al Nassr, but I’m thinking about returning to Europe, although perhaps not immediately,” Félix said.
“I don’t know whether it will be at the end of this season or the end of next season, but I want to return to Europe, play in the Champions League again.”
For Félix, the attraction of European football is largely connected to the opportunity to compete against some of the strongest teams and players in the world.
“Playing in Europe gives you extra motivation, playing in the Champions League, playing against the best teams in the world,” he added.
Félix’s comments come at a time when he is also enjoying a productive spell with the Portugal national team.
The 26-year-old scored the only goal as Portugal defeated Wales 1-0 on 24 September, securing all three points for his country.
He then found the net again in Portugal’s next match against Norway, opening the scoring in the 17th minute as Roberto Martínez’s side claimed a 2-1 victory.
Félix’s goal against Norway means he has scored in consecutive matches for Portugal, underlining his current form at international level.
Although Félix is considering a return to Europe, he has made it clear that he is currently happy at Al Nassr.
The Portuguese forward joined the Saudi Arabian club in July 2025 after leaving Chelsea. His move to Al Nassr came after a period in which he also spent time on loan at Barcelona and AC Milan.
Félix has also previously represented Benfica and Atlético Madrid during his European career.
His first season at Al Nassr proved highly successful, as he helped the club win the Saudi Pro League title and was named the league’s Player of the Season for his performances throughout the campaign.
Félix has also addressed comparisons between the Saudi Pro League and European football.
While he recognises that the Saudi league does not currently have the same standing as Europe’s leading competitions, he has spoken positively about the quality of football in Saudi Arabia and his experience at Al Nassr.
