Namibia ranked second in Africa for fastest AI adoption, Microsoft 2025 report shows

Namibia has secured an impressive position as the second-fastest AI-adopting country in Africa, according to Microsoft’s 2025 Artificial Intelligence Adoption Report. The ranking highlights Namibia’s rapid digital progress and its growing participation in global technological innovation.
The report shows that 12.96% of Namibia’s population actively uses AI tools, while almost 20% of all internet users in the country interact with AI platforms such as chatbots, automation tools and advanced digital applications. This places Namibia ahead of several larger economies, including Egypt, Libya and Côte d’Ivoire.
Microsoft notes that countries with rising AI adoption often show improvements in internet accessibility, digital literacy and policy support, areas where Namibia has recently made noticeable progress. Ongoing work on the Artificial Intelligence Act, investment in digital infrastructure and increasing public awareness of AI are contributing to this momentum.
Across Namibia, individuals and businesses are turning to AI for daily tasks: content creation, translation, education support, financial planning, design work and customer service. Small businesses especially are benefiting from AI-driven solutions that help reduce costs and boost efficiency.
However, the report also points out key challenges Namibia must continue addressing including uneven internet access, skills gaps in rural regions and the need for strong regulation to ensure responsible use. Despite these hurdles, Namibia’s continental ranking indicates a promising future as the country continues integrating AI into its development strategies.
