The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has summoned Telecom Namibia for an urgent briefing following ongoing broadband outages that have affected internet services in several parts of the country.

CRAN said it is concerned about the frequency and impact of the disruptions, noting that they have affected businesses, households, and institutions that depend on stable connectivity. The regulator also questioned whether the operator is fully meeting its licence obligations, particularly on service quality standards.

Telecom Namibia has been asked to explain the root causes of the outages, outline steps already taken, and provide long-term solutions to prevent further disruptions. CRAN Chief Executive Officer Emilia Nghikembua said reliable telecommunications remain vital for Namibia’s economic and digital development.

She added that the authority will closely assess compliance with licence conditions while monitoring ongoing restoration efforts.

In response, Telecom Namibia confirmed it is cooperating with CRAN and attributed the disruptions to technical and system-related challenges affecting both fixed and mobile networks.

The company said its teams are working to restore stability and improve performance, while also implementing upgrades, better monitoring systems, and stronger customer communication.
