Infantino Apologises, But UEFA Withdraws Support for His Fourth-Term Bid
FIFA president Gianni Infantino has issued an apology amid growing criticism over his leadership, but the move has failed to prevent UEFA from withdrawing its support for his bid to remain in office for a fourth term.
UEFA has maintained that FIFA’s response and Infantino’s apology have not changed its position, with European football officials continuing to express concerns over the direction of world football’s governing body.
The Football Association (FA) has also confirmed that it has withdrawn its backing for Infantino’s re-election campaign, adding further uncertainty ahead of the FIFA presidential vote.

However, not all regions have taken the same stance. South America’s football governing body CONMEBOL has indicated that it will not support any attempt to remove Infantino, highlighting the divisions emerging within international football.
Infantino is expected to continue his campaign for another term as FIFA president and will require at least 106 votes from FIFA’s 211 member associations to secure re-election.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee is also set to discuss the matter, with officials potentially deciding whether to publicly reaffirm their support for Infantino’s fourth-term ambition.
The growing divide between FIFA’s continental members has placed the upcoming presidential election under intense global attention.
