Shock as Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns Star Jayden Adams Dies at 25 After World Cup Exit

South African football is in mourning following the passing of talented midfielder Jayden Adams, who died at the age of 25.
The Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana player’s death was confirmed by the South African Football Association (SAFA), although details surrounding the cause of his passing have not been disclosed.
Two weeks ago, Adams lost his grandmother Marianna Adams but demonstrated remarkable professionalism by featuring for Bafana Bafana in their World Cup match against Czechia.
Adams was regarded as one of the country’s brightest football prospects and recently had the opportunity to represent South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the Americas, where he showcased his ability on the global stage.

The midfielder rose to prominence during his time at Stellenbosch FC, where his performances earned him national recognition before joining Mamelodi Sundowns last year.
He was also part of the Bafana Bafana squad that secured a bronze medal at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations tournament held in Ivory Coast, contributing to one of South Africa’s strongest continental campaigns in recent years.
At the 2026 World Cup in the Americas, Adams featured in all three of South Africa’s group-stage matches but was not included in the squad for the round of 32 encounter against Canada in Los Angeles.
His death has left teammates, supporters, and the wider football community deeply saddened, as South Africa reflects on the loss of a player whose career showed great promise.
