NSC says international medals alone do not guarantee cash rewards

Winning an international medal does not automatically qualify Namibian athletes for financial rewards, the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) has clarified.
Speaking at a media briefing on the National Sports Rewards Programme, NSC Chief Administrator Simataa Mwiya said athletes must meet specific eligibility requirements before they can receive performance bonuses under the National Sport Reward Policy.
Mwiya explained that competitors are informed before travelling whether the event they are attending qualifies for financial rewards. He said the policy is based on merit rather than participation or medals alone.
The NSC also announced that it paid out N$774,000 to qualifying athletes during the first quarter of 2026.
Beneficiaries came from Athletics Namibia, the Namibia Wrestling Federation, the Namibia Full Contact Martial Arts Federation, Namibia Inline Hockey and Special Olympics Namibia.
