Health ministry launches internal probe after alleged rape at Onandjokwe Hospital
The Ministry of Health and Social Services has opened an internal investigation into the alleged rape of a patient at Onandjokwe Intermediate Hospital, while criminal proceedings against a medical intern continue.
In a statement issued on Monday, Executive Director Penda Ithindi said the ministry views the allegations as extremely serious and has initiated both an administrative investigation and disciplinary process in line with the Public Service Act.
He stressed that any form of sexual misconduct is inconsistent with the ethical and professional standards expected of healthcare workers.
The announcement follows the first court appearance of 31-year-old medical intern Dennis Noa in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he was charged with rape and denied bail.
Ithindi said the ministry is cooperating with the Namibian Police as criminal investigations continue, while its own internal processes run concurrently.
He added that the ministry remains committed to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for patients, staff and the public.
The ministry further condemned all forms of sexual violence and urged the public to allow the legal process to take its course as investigations continue.
