38-Year-Old Woman Arrested With N$2.23 Million Worth Of Drugs In Windhoek

A major drug seizure in Windhoek has led to the arrest of a 38-year-old woman after police allegedly recovered Mandrax tablets and suspected cannabis valued at approximately N$2.23 million.

The Namibian Police Force said officers seized 17,717 Mandrax tablets along with 10.215 kilograms of suspected cannabis, locally known as “madjaat”, during a search in Goreagab on Saturday.

The operation was conducted at about 06:50, with police saying the substances were allegedly found in the woman’s possession.

According to the police, the combined estimated value of the seized drugs is N$2,228,970, making it one of the significant drug-related seizures reported in the area.

The suspect is facing charges under the Abuse of Dependence-Producing Substances and Rehabilitation Centres Act of 1971, relating to the alleged dealing in prohibited dependence-producing substances.

She is also facing a charge under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA).

Police said investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged drug dealing.
