72-Year-Old Man Killed, Wife Injured In Alleged Panga Attack By Stepson
A 72-year-old man was killed and his wife seriously injured in an alleged panga attack at Tjeye village in the Kavango East on Tuesday night.
The deceased, identified as Kakoma Petrus Sindimba, was allegedly attacked by his stepson at about 21h30. Police allege that the suspect struck Sindimba several times on the head with a panga, resulting in fatal injuries.
The suspect is also alleged to have attacked his biological mother, Pauline Liyagho, during the incident. Liyagho sustained serious open wounds to her left hand and was taken to Rundu Hospital for medical treatment.
Kavango East head of Crime Investigations, Deputy Commissioner Moses Simaho, said the suspect allegedly removed Sindimba’s body from the house and dragged it to nearby bushes, where it was left.
Police subsequently arrested the suspect, who is facing charges of murder and attempted murder, read with the Domestic Violence Act.
Sindimba’s body was transported to the Rundu mortuary, while investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
