Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea and DR Congo Pick Up Crucial AFCON 2027 Qualifying Wins
Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea and DR Congo all collected important victories on Monday as the second round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers continued across the continent.
Burkina Faso edged Central African Republic 1-0 in Casablanca, while Equatorial Guinea recorded a narrow 1-0 victory over Sierra Leone. In Harare, DR Congo defeated Zimbabwe 2-1 to take sole control of Group E.
Burkina Faso Move Top of Group F
Burkina Faso secured their first victory of the qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win over Central African Republic.
Aboubacar Camara scored the decisive goal in the 60th minute to give the Stallions all three points.
The result moved Burkina Faso to four points from two matches, putting them top of Group F. Mauritania are second with three points, while Benin have one point and Central African Republic remain bottom without a point.
Zúñiga Gives Equatorial Guinea First Victory
Equatorial Guinea also claimed their first points of the campaign after beating Sierra Leone 1-0.
Loren Zúñiga needed just one minute to break the deadlock, scoring the only goal of the match and securing a valuable home victory for Equatorial Guinea.
The victory takes Equatorial Guinea to third place in Group E with three points, behind DR Congo and Zimbabwe on goal difference. Sierra Leone are bottom with no points after two defeats.
DR Congo Take Control of Group E
DR Congo continued their perfect start by defeating Zimbabwe 2-1 in Harare.
Yoane Wissa opened the scoring for the visitors in the 30th minute before Samuel Moutoussamy doubled DR Congo’s advantage just before half-time.
Zimbabwe pulled one back through Marshall Munetsi in stoppage time, but DR Congo held on for their second consecutive victory.
The result leaves DR Congo top of Group E with six points, while Zimbabwe remain second on three points. Equatorial Guinea are third on three points, with Sierra Leone fourth on zero.
With two rounds completed, DR Congo have established an early lead in the group, while Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea are both on three points heading into the next fixtures.
