Real Madrid maintain winning run with dramatic comeback

real Madrid FC - Kylian Mbappé celebr his goalates

Real Madrid extended their winning run in the UEFA Champions League after producing a late comeback to defeat AEK Athens 3-2 in Greece on Wednesday night.

The Spanish side had to recover twice after Aboubakary Koita and Stavros Pilios put the hosts ahead. Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé brought Madrid level on both occasions before Federico Valverde struck in the 90+2nd minute to secure all three points.

The match also ended on a sour note for AEK, with goalscorer Koita receiving a red card in 90 minutes.

The result also brought attention to Vinícius Júnior, who returned to the starting line-up after missing recent domestic matches because of suspension. The Brazilian winger had a relatively quiet evening and was unable to find the scoresheet. He remained on the pitch until the 80th minute.

Madrid have continued collecting important results, raising questions about how José Mourinho wants to balance his attacking options and whether the side can maintain this consistency.

With this victory, Real Madrid move to 12 points from four Champions League matches, keeping their perfect record in the competition.
