Atletico Madrid Beat Manchester United 2-0 in Champions League
Atletico Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, 13 October 2026, at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, Spain.
Pablo Barrios gave the Spanish side an early advantage before Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman sealed the win in the closing stages, with Manchester United finishing the match with 10 men following Leny Yoro’s red card.
Barrios opened the scoring just 52 seconds into the match after receiving a pass from Alejandro Baena, giving Atletico an immediate boost in front of their home supporters.
Manchester United attempted to respond, but Atletico maintained their advantage as the contest progressed. Marcus Rashford received a yellow card in the 52nd minute, while both managers made several substitutions to change the course of the game.
Atletico introduced Marc Pubill in the 60th minute, followed by Jonathan David a minute later. Manchester United responded with a triple substitution in the 66th minute, bringing on Joshua Zirkzee, Mason Mount and Amad Diallo.
Atletico made further changes in the 71st minute, with Morten Hjulmand and Lookman entering the game. The latter would prove decisive in the closing stages.
Manchester United’s challenge became more difficult when Yoro was sent off in the 74th minute for bringing down Jonathan David, leaving the visitors with 10 players.
Lookman then doubled Atletico’s lead in the 79th minute, capitalising on an opportunity involving David to secure the result for Diego Simeone’s side.
