Namibia Tops Africa in StartupBlink Innovators Business Environment Index 2026

Namibia has been ranked first in Africa in the Market Perception Pillar of the StartupBlink Innovators Business Environment Index (IBEI) 2026, highlighting the country’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation and investor confidence.
The announcement was made by the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), which noted that the ranking reflects Namibia’s institutional credibility, strong governance, and the high level of international trust it has earned across the continent.
The IBEI assesses over 125 countries using more than 30 parameters across three main pillars: Ease of Operating a Business, Business Incentives, and Market Perception. The Market Perception Pillar, in particular, evaluates factors such as governance quality, transparency, stability, human capital, and international mobility.
Namibia’s top ranking in Africa was driven by several standout achievements. The country leads not only the continent but also Sub-Saharan and Southern Africa in market perception. Namibia also performs strongly on tax competitiveness, ranking in the global top quartile for both Dividend Tax Rate and Capital Gains Tax Rate, and continues to be recognized for maintaining a stable and investor-friendly environment.
Officials attribute this success to reforms designed to support entrepreneurship, including the Investor One Stop Centre and the ScaleUp Namibia platform, which provide guidance and resources to businesses throughout their lifecycle.
Looking ahead, the NIPDB has outlined priorities to sustain growth, including enhancing coordination between stakeholders, increasing investment in research and development, strengthening intellectual property protections, and expanding pathways for market-ready innovations.
“Our priority remains to ensure that Namibia’s innovation support systems and ease of doing business continue to evolve in line with the country’s institutional credibility, enabling businesses to scale and compete regionally and globally,” said a NIPDB spokesperson.
This recognition positions Namibia as a leading African destination for investors and innovators, signaling continued growth in the country’s entrepreneurial and economic landscape.
