ECN Confirms Smooth Progress in Ongoing Elections

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) says the voting process for the seventh Regional Council and Local Authority Elections is running smoothly across the country.
According to ECN Chairperson Dr Elsie Nghikembua, all 4 827 polling stations opened exactly at 07h00, and no major challenges have been reported so far.
“Polling stations nationwide opened on schedule, and reports indicate that voting is progressing well in all regions. We have also seen a positive voter turnout, with many people arriving early to cast their ballots,” Dr Nghikembua said.
She noted that the commission has put firm measures in place to ensure that voting is fair, efficient and accessible especially for the elderly and persons with disabilities.
Dr Nghikembua added that political party agents, candidate representatives, and accredited observers are stationed at various polling points to monitor the process and promote transparency.
“Their presence strengthens trust in our electoral system,” she said.
Even though some regions such as Zambezi, Oshikoto and Khomas experienced light rainfall, the weather did not disrupt voting activities. ECN teams are continuing to monitor conditions closely.
Dr Nghikembua reminded voters that elections are an important expression of democratic rights.
“I call on all registered voters in the 120 constituencies (including the uncontested Mankupi Constituency) and 59 local authorities to come out and vote. As voting continues until 21h00, I urge everyone to remain patient and respectful,” she said.
She concluded by thanking citizens for their participation.
“Let us demonstrate the strength of our democracy. I encourage all Namibians to visit their polling stations and make their voices heard.”
