The City of Windhoek has officially bid farewell to its 2020–2025 City Council during a ceremony held this week, marking the end of the Council’s five-year term following the regional and local authority elections conducted on 26 November.

Speaking at the event, Windhoek Mayor Cllr Ndeshihafela Larandja reflected on the challenging period in which the outgoing Council began its work. She noted that the team assumed office at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, a time she described as a defining moment in the city’s history. Despite the difficulties, Larandja said the Council worked to stabilise municipal finances, improve service delivery, and reinforce operational discipline.

Deputy Mayor Cllr Clemencia Hanases expressed appreciation to fellow councillors, municipal staff, and residents for their cooperation throughout the term. She added that the outgoing Council leaves with optimism for the future. “The challenges remain, but the foundation is now strong as we hand over to the incoming leadership,” she said.
