Saudi Arabia and Uruguay shared the points in an entertaining World Cup encounter after a late Uruguayan equaliser cancelled out the Saudis’ first-half lead.

Saudi Arabia looked on course for a crucial victory after defender Abdulelah Al Amri broke the deadlock in the 41st minute. Al Amri rose to the occasion to give his side a deserved 1-0 advantage before the break and was later shown a yellow card three minutes later.

Uruguay responded with a series of attacking changes at halftime, introducing Juan Manuel Sanabria and Agustin Canobbio in an effort to turn the match around. The South Americans increased the pressure throughout the second half, but Saudi Arabia remained organised defensively.

The Saudis also refreshed their squad with substitutions, including the introduction of Nasser Al-Dawsari midway through the second half as they sought to protect their lead.

Uruguay eventually found the breakthrough in the 80th minute when Maximiliano Araujo struck to level the score at 1-1, rescuing a point for his side. The goal sparked further changes from both teams as they searched for a winner during the closing stages.

Despite several late substitutions and added time, neither side could find a decisive goal, and the match ended 1-1.
