Vargas and Manzambi Fire Switzerland Past Canada in Hard-Fought 2–1 Win

A strong second-half performance saw Switzerland secure a 2–1 victory over Canada in a match that shifted quickly after the break.
After a goalless opening 45 minutes, the breakthrough arrived shortly after halftime when Ruben Vargas finished off a well-worked move in the 46th minute to put Switzerland ahead. The Swiss then doubled their advantage in the 57th minute through Johan Manzambi, who combined effectively with Breel Embolo to punish the Canadian defence.
Canada responded with a series of substitutions aimed at changing the tempo, introducing players such as Stephen Eustáquio, Mathieu Choinière, Liam Millar, and Ali Ahmed in the 58th minute, while Switzerland also rotated, bringing in Silvan Widmer and Djibril Sow shortly after.
The pressure eventually paid off for Canada in the 76th minute when Promise David pulled one back, finishing from a Nathan-Dylan Saliba assist to reignite hopes of a comeback. Further changes followed on both sides as the game opened up in the final stages, with Switzerland introducing Cedric Itten and Christian Fassnacht, while Canada pushed forward with Jacob Shaffelburg and Richmond Laryea.
Despite late pressure, Switzerland managed to control the closing minutes and protect their lead, securing a solid 2–1 win after a competitive and physically demanding encounter.
