Speaking to journalist after Norway’s FIFA World Cup quarter-final defeat to England, Erling Haaland said the national team’s historic tournament run has changed not only him but also the country, describing the campaign as a defining moment for Norwegian football.

The Norway captain reflected on the team’s journey after their 2-1 loss to England, saying reaching the quarter-finals had left a lasting impact despite the disappointment of missing out on a place in the semi-finals.

“I think this changed Norway, and I think it changed me,” Haaland said.

The Manchester City striker said competing at the highest level had reinforced the importance of paying attention to the smallest details, noting that knockout matches are often decided by fine margins.

“At this level, it’s the small details that matter,” he said, adding that he has learned the same lesson while playing for Manchester City.

Haaland admitted it had been difficult to process everything the team experienced during the six-week tournament, describing the World Cup as an emotional rollercoaster.

“It’s kind of difficult to take in this kind of show or rollercoaster we’ve been in now for the last six weeks because it’s been so much,” he said.

Despite Norway’s quarter-final exit, Haaland said he was immensely proud of the team’s achievements.

“I’ve been so proud every single day here now since we qualified and since being here in the U.S.,” he said.

The striker also acknowledged England’s quality, saying top teams often benefit from the small moments that can determine the outcome of major international matches.

Norway’s impressive World Cup campaign captured the attention of football fans around the world and marked one of the country’s most memorable performances on football’s biggest stage. Although the tournament ended in heartbreak, Haaland believes the experience has laid a strong foundation for the future and inspired a new generation of Norwegian footballers.

His remarks reflect optimism despite the defeat, with the captain insisting that Norway’s achievements have already changed the country’s football landscape and provided belief that the team can compete with the world’s best.
