PAC Puts Nkurenkuru Town Council’s Finances Under the Microscope

The financial management of the Nkurenkuru Town Council is under scrutiny as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) holds a regional public hearing in Nkurenkuru today, 11 August 2026.
The hearing follows concerns raised in reports by the Auditor-General, including an adverse audit opinion on the financial statements submitted by the Town Council’s Accounting Officer.
An adverse audit opinion is issued when an auditor determines that financial statements contain material and pervasive misstatements, meaning they do not fairly present the entity’s financial position and financial performance in accordance with the applicable financial reporting framework.
The PAC’s engagement with the Nkurenkuru Town Council forms part of its broader oversight mandate to examine Auditor-General reports tabled in the National Assembly and assess how public institutions manage and account for public resources.
Following its review of the Auditor-General’s reports tabled during the 8th National Assembly, the Committee resolved to conduct regional public hearings to directly engage authorities on the findings and issues identified during the audits.

The Nkurenkuru hearing is therefore intended to provide an opportunity for the Committee to seek explanations and clarification from the relevant authorities regarding the audit findings.
The Committee is also expected to use the process to strengthen accountability and transparency while ensuring that public funds are managed responsibly and in accordance with the law.
The PAC will continue engaging relevant authorities on the matters raised by the Auditor-General as it carries out its oversight responsibilities and promotes sound financial management within public institutions.
