Ropes for Floating Pontoon Bridge Stolen at Sikanduko Ahead of Official Opening

Ropes attached to a newly installed floating pontoon bridge at Sikanduko, Rundu have been stolen, raising concern in the community just days before its scheduled official opening on next Monday.
According to information gathered by The Updated World, the floating pontoon bridge was donated through the Office of the Prime Minister via the Ministry of Education. The structure was installed to provide a safer and more convenient crossing for schoolchildren and residents who regularly use the stream as a route to school and other daily activities.
Although the bridge remains usable and has not been completely disabled, parts of the installation have already been tampered with after some of the ropes were removed. Community members say the situation is worrying, as the bridge was introduced as a key improvement for local mobility and safety.

The pontoon bridge is expected to be officially opened on Monday, but the early incident has sparked concern about the protection of public infrastructure in the area.
Speaking at the site, one community member expressed frustration over the theft, saying people are damaging something that was meant to benefit everyone and calling for greater respect and responsibility.

The crossing remains an important route for Sikanduko residents, particularly learners who depend on it for safe passage to and from school.
