NamPost and Finance Ministry Agree on Measures to Ease Grant Payment Delays

NamPost and the Ministry of Finance have agreed on a set of corrective measures aimed at reducing long queues and cash shortages that have affected social grant payments across the country since NamPost took over the service from Epupa Investment.
The agreement follows a joint review after widespread congestion was reported at several post offices during the January 2026 payment cycle. Nampost noted that many beneficiaries arrived on unscheduled days, placing unexpected pressure on branch operations. On the first day alone, more than 37,000 people were paid, well above the planned daily target of about 28,000.
To address the situation, the Ministry of Finance and NamPost have decided to strictly enforce the official payment timetable. From Thursday, 15 January 2026, post offices will only process payments for the grant categories allocated to that specific day. The aim is to bring order to the system, improve efficiency, and prevent overcrowding at branches.
In addition, NamPost will strengthen its operational capacity by deploying extra mobile payment teams to busy branches and increasing staff numbers where needed. These steps are expected to shorten waiting times and improve turnaround during peak periods.
Government and NamPost have appealed to beneficiaries to respect the published payment schedule and to make use of mobile pay points in their communities. Officials warned that traveling to post offices outside allocated dates creates unnecessary congestion and disrupts service delivery for everyone.
For the remainder of January 2026, in-branch payments are scheduled as follows:
- Old Age and Disability Cash Grants: 12–14 January
- Child Cash Grant: 15–17 January
- Basic Income Cash Grant: 19–20 January
Beneficiaries who miss their assigned dates will still be able to collect their grants one week later, between 20 and 25 January 2026.
NamPost has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with regional authorities to stabilise the payment process and ensure smoother, more reliable access to social grants nationwide.
