President Honors Brave Teen Who Saved Twins in Omusati Water Pond

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has announced that a 16-year-old boy, Cornelius Shimwaafeni from the Omusati Region will be honoured as a national hero after risking his life to save two abandoned infants.
The declaration was made during the Omagongo Cultural Festival at Onamega village, where the Head of State highlighted the importance of compassion and collective responsibility in society.
The teenager came to the rescue earlier this month when twin babies were discovered in a water pond. Acting swiftly, he managed to pull them to safety, an act that has since drawn national attention.
While addressing the gathering, the President also used the moment to call on communities to be more vigilant and protective of vulnerable individuals, stressing the need to uphold moral values.
She said the recognition of the young boy goes beyond the act itself, describing it as a symbol of unity and humanity that should inspire the nation.
Government will organise an official ceremony to formally confer the honour, with arrangements to be finalised in consultation with Shimwaafeni’s family.
