The Namibian Police Force and NAMDIA Strengthen Cooperation to Safeguard Namibia’s Diamond Industry

The Namibian Police Force and Namib Desert Diamonds (Pty) Ltd (NAMDIA) have formalised a new partnership aimed at enhancing the protection of Namibia’s diamond sector. The two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today, 04 December 2025, marking a significant step toward improved security and transparency within the country’s diamond value chain.
The agreement seeks to boost operational collaboration between law enforcement and the state-owned diamond company, particularly in areas vulnerable to illicit activities that threaten national resources.
Inspector-General of the Namibian Police Force, Lieutenant General J.S. Shikongo, described the diamond industry as one of the country’s most sensitive and economically vital sectors. He stressed the importance of collective responsibility in shielding the industry from illegal practices that could derail national growth.

Acting NAMDIA CEO, Lelly Usiku, said the partnership underscores the strategic importance of diamonds to Namibia’s development. She noted that diamond revenue plays a critical role in supporting public services and driving socio-economic progress, making their protection a national priority.
The MoU is expected to lay the foundation for stronger cooperation and improved systems to secure Namibia’s natural resources.
