A wave of concern has swept across social media after a video showing a distressed woman, believed to be based in Windhoek, began circulating widely online, prompting calls for public assistance and intervention from the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare.

In the footage, the woman is seen in tears following an incident in which a female police officer allegedly confiscated the goods she sells on the street. The woman claims she relies on informal trading to survive, as she is unemployed and responsible for caring for a young baby.

She explained that her street vending is aimed at earning enough money to buy milk and basic food items for her child. According to her account, she had recently borrowed N$1,600 to purchase stock from Stop & Shop, which she transported and sold using a trolley.

On the day in question, the woman said she had only managed to make sales amounting to N$60 before her trolley and goods were reportedly seized.

The woman further stated that she is facing additional hardship following the death of her child’s father. She alleged that despite explaining her situation to the police officer involved, her pleas were dismissed.

The video has since triggered widespread public sympathy, with many users urging authorities and well-wishers to help locate the woman and provide her with the necessary support.
