NAMDIA Dismisses Allegations, Defends Security Upgrades Following Robbery

NAMDIA has disclosed new information about the January 18 diamond heist, including the exact quantity and value of the gems involved.

Court documents show that the stolen diamonds, purchased in December 2024 from the Namibia Diamond Trading Company for N$314 million, were in their raw state—unsorted and unprocessed. Their value was determined by the government diamond valuator under the Diamond Act.

The haul consisted of 51,196.24 carats of NS 50 Serie diamonds and 530.91 carats of NS 50 Special diamonds, totaling 51,727.15 carats. NAMDIA states that it became the lawful owner of the diamonds upon purchase.

The company alleges that G4S employee Samuel Shipanga, on duty at NAMDIA during the heist, was complicit in the theft. Shipanga has been arrested and charged.

NAMDIA further accuses G4S of failing to prevent the robbery, neglecting to act while present at the scene, and not performing its duties according to accepted security standards. The company is claiming N$314 million in damages, while G4S has said it will defend itself in court.
