Five clubs have now withdrawn from the upcoming Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup, after recently relegated Golden Bees FC confirmed their decision not to participate in the competition.

In a letter addressed to the North West First Division League management dated 15 May 2026, Golden Bees Sports Club cited a lack of sufficient prior consultation, short notice and financial difficulties as the main reasons behind their withdrawal from the tournament.

The Outjo-based club stated that the current framework and financial structure of the competition make participation “extremely difficult and unsustainable” for clubs operating under challenging financial conditions.

Golden Bees further expressed disappointment with the manner in which the competition was introduced and implemented, particularly for clubs competing in the North West First Division.

The club, however, acknowledged and supported the Namibia Football Association’s initiative to expand competitive football opportunities across all divisions.

Their withdrawal increases the number of clubs opting out of the NFA Cup to five. Other clubs that have also withdrawn from the competition are Bucks Buccaneers, Life Fighters FC, Tigers Sports Club and Mariental Sports Club.

The growing number of withdrawals has raised concerns over the financial demands and logistical challenges surrounding the newly introduced competition, especially for lower division clubs.
